The weekend has finally arrived! TGIF, as the mantra goes. We here at Douglas and Gordon have created a round-up of all the events taking place in your area, so that you can plan ahead for this weekend’s entertainment.

Natural History Museum

Dino Snores for grownups! Yes, you read that correctly. The Natural History Museum will be hosting an adult version of their popular Dino Snores children’s series, where the young and curious get to stay over and discover exactly what skeletons come to life once the sun goes down. Now, the young-at-heart will get their turn to experience the cool and the creepy, bedding down under the watchful eye-socket of the Diplodocus skeleton in the central hall. Evening activities will include a 3-course dinner in the restaurant, followed by a quiz, some live music, stand-up comedy, and an all-night monster movie marathon. Whilst there will also be an unusual edible-insect style midnight feast, you can definitely look forward to the fully-cooked breakfast in the morning. Dino Snores will take place this Saturday, starting at 7.30pm.

Masterpiece London

Antique and fine-art fanatics will certainly be in their element at the Masterpiece London fair, taking place on the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. 2013 heralds the 4th year of Masterpiece London, which features only the best in antiques, art and design from around the world. With internationally-renowned collectors and curators, you can be sure that the items up for sale have been thoroughly vetted by a community of experts. The fair will be open from 11am to 7pm this Saturday, and will feature various educational talks. According to their website, Masterpiece London “Presents[ing] a unique opportunity to collect across multiple disciplines and mix[ing] contemporary with antique, the traditional with the eclectic”.

RCA Graduate Show

Continuing on the subject of all things artistic, the Royal College of Art is currently holding their graduate exhibition at both the Kensington and Battersea campuses. The Kensington exhibition will showcase work from students in the programmes of animation, design, fashion, textiles, vehicle design and visual communication. The Battersea campus, meanwhile, will display work primarily in the field of fine art. Prepare to be inspired and awed by the creativity of the UK’s future artists and designers. The Kensington show will be open from noon till 8pm.

Science Museum

Codebreaker: Alan Turing’s Life and Legacy is a long-running exhibition currently on show at the Science Museum. Turing was famous for his involvement in the codebreaking at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. He was also a mathematician, philosopher and computer pioneer, with his most famous invention being the Pilot ACE computer. Discover more about his inventions and ideas this weekend on the first floor of the museum, which features interactive displays and historic imagery.

Summer Sampling

Meanwhile, independent wine-merchant The Sampler will be holding their summer tastings session this Sunday in South Kensington. Visitors will have the chance to sample over 30 different wines – featuring some old favourites and newer concoctions. There will also be great discounts available on selected bottles. The event will run from 1pm to 6pm, with tickets costing £10 at the door.

Victoria & Albert Museum

For the musically-inclined among us, why not pay a visit to the David Bowie exhibition currently running at the Victoria and Albert Museum? The display features over 300 objects that include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and Bowie's own instruments. The museum is open from 10am to 5:45pm daily. If history is more your thing, however, then the Treasures of the Royal Courts exhibition ought to please you – with more than 150 items, from royal portraits, jewellery and luxury goods to processional armour and heraldry, the exhibition charts the majesty of the courts from Henry VIII and Elizabeth I to Ivan the Terrible and the early Romanovs.
