We Love Local: Primrose Bakery
Tell us a little bit about Primrose Bakery.
Primrose Bakery specialise in cupcakes, celebration cakes, delicious loaves and slices. Everything is baked in the kitchen on site, so the smell of baked goods hits you as soon as you walk in the door! We are unique in that we bake everything in small batches and use only the finest ingredients. We have tried to stick to simple old fashioned baking just like we would make at home with our families. This October will be the Bakery's 10th anniversary. It's flown by! We started out in a small family kitchen and now we have 2 bakeries and our 4th book out in October.
What do you love most Primrose Bakery?
Every day is different at the bakery. We are a small close knit team and so I often start the day in the office taking orders, followed by working in the cafe during morning rush as a barista and then when the afternoon hits I may help ice up extra cupcakes for the school rush. I love working in the kitchen and baking; it really is the dream job - being surrounded by wonderful smells and cakes all day.
What are your most popular treats?
Our Salted Caramel cupcakes are extremely popular, as are our Cocktail cupcakes. Our latest Cocktail cupcake is an Espresso Martini. A customer requested it, so we gave it a go and it is delicious! We are always happy to try out suggestions or try out new flavours. Personally I love Rocky Road. It is my weakness - at Easter we make Rocky Road cups with mini eggs on top and little Easter chicks - which make them even more irresistible. We have a lot of unique requests for decorations on cupcakes and cakes. Every now and then we get marriage proposals on cakes. They are very sweet - the groom is normally very nervous!
Tell us about your classes.
Our classes take place every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month and are a great afternoon treat. Everyone learns how to create our signature swirl on cupcakes and experiment with piping. They then they take home all the treats they make. We can also arrange private classes for corporate events and parties.
At Douglas & Gordon, we love local. Why do you love Covent Garden and Primrose Hill?
London is a great city with lots of places to explore and unique high streets. Covent Garden is always bustling and it’s full of delicious places to visit. Laduree in the square and our neighbours over at Hope & Greenwood have a wall full of old fashioned sweeties and chocolates. Our original bakery is in Primrose Hill, it's another hidden gem of London and full of great independent stores. It's overlooked by the Hill itself which has great views of London. In the summer, it's great to grab some treats from the bakery and take a picnic up the hill.
Primrose Bakery is a delightful local London bakery and eatery situated in Primrose Hill and Covent Garden.
