Plan Your Weekend With D&G: Putney & Southfields
The weekend has arrived, and to make your life a little bit easier, we here at Douglas and Gordon have complied a post detailing all the weekend events taking place in your area.
Wimbledon
The ladies’ singles final is taking place this Saturday afternoon, whilst the gentlemen’s will be held on Sunday. After an exciting 2 weeks, it’s time to say goodbye to the annual tennis event. Whether you’re lucky enough to have courtside tickets, or will be watching from various outdoor viewing areas around the city, enjoy the sporting spirit and send-off the finalists in style.
Putney School of Art and Design
The Putney School of Art and Design are currently holding their graduate exhibition, entitled “Seven”. The exhibition started on 2nd July, and will run until the 14th. The graduate exhibition will display the work of 7 artists, a culmination of a 2 year diploma course at the school. The artwork showcased covers a range of fields, including printmaking, painting, digital art and experimental media. Entrance is free, so do go along and show your support if you’re an art fan!
Half Moon
Your musical offerings in Putney this weekend include Imagine the Beatles, one of the UK’s top tribute bands. They will be performing tonight at 8pm at the Half Moon Putney. Sunday, meanwhile, offers an afternoon of jazz performed by the Haywood Sisters. The show is free, and will run from 1pm to 4pm. The London-based vintage style trio will sing jazz hits from the 20’s, 40’s and 50’s. If you’re a fan of old-school, then don’t miss out! Food will be served all day.
Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre
The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre will be holding an open house session this Saturday. The session is aimed at newcomers to the centre, and will consist of an asana demonstration, an hour and a half taster class for beginners and intermediates, vegetarian snacks and an introduction to meditation. The event is free of charge, and will run from 11am to 3pm. If you’ve always wanted to try out yoga, go along and experience it for yourself! The centre is located at 51 Felsham Road.
De Morgan Centre
A new exhibition at the De Morgan Centre started today, entitled “Observed and Made”. The show is focused on contemporary ceramics, and will display the works of Joanna Veevers and Sasha Wardell. Visitors will also have the option to purchase some of the pieces on show. The exhibition will run until 31st August.
Wandsworth Museum
The play “Oleanna”, written by David Mamet, is currently taking place at the Wandsworth Museum. It ends tomorrow night, so you’d best book your tickets as soon as possible! The acclaimed play was first performed in New York in 1992, and has since been made into a film. Oleanna has been described as a “Controversial, thought-provoking and powerful piece of drama from the foremost living American dramatist”. Performances begin at 7.45pm.
